7. Cranberries, called sassamenesh by Algonquins and ibimi by Wampanoags, were used by some indigenous people for dye and medicine, and were a part of the first energy bar, a food called pemmican. Pemmican is a mixture of cranberries, dried deer meat, and fat that could be eaten on long journeys. If an athlete ate pemmican before running a marathon, would they have more energy than if they ate a modern energy bar?
