Intelligence is like a tree. It can grow and change over time. Intelligence can change all the time because learning is a process. Tests of IQ cannot simply measure how smart someone could be. Intelligence must be measured by a person's dedication toward a growth mindset and one's way of making decisions under pressure.
Making decisions is one quality that contributes to a person's success, but IQ tests do not currently address. "But to die of hunger, starve to death-that's the worst of all!" (Homer, 17 & 18) Odysseus's crew decided to eat the cattle due to them starving. "Father Zeus! The rest of you blissful gods that never die-Punish them all! That crew killed my cattle!" (Homer, 55-57)
The crew deciding to eat the cattle led to consequences that they had expected later. Some people may say that the only source of food was the cattle, however " struck inland, up the island, there to pray to the gods" Knowing that they landed on a island, there may have been more resources.
One's dedication towards a growth mindset is another quality contributing to a person's success. "As we had predicted, the students with a growth mindset felt that learning was more important goal in school than getting good grades." (Dweck, 13) Having a growth mindset can improve one's desire to learn more than just get good grades, which can help them with challenges later in life. "Presumably, managers with a growth mindset see themselves as works-in-progress and understand they need feedback to improve." (Dweck, 18) may argue that a fixed mindset could help someone become smart if they want to look smart. However, a fixed mindset would not always help. "We found that intelligence praise encouraged a fixed mindset- those congratulated for their intelligence, for example, should away from a challenging assignment.
IQ tests currently do not address how intelligence is measured, but there are other factors that measure intelligence. Two factors are one's dedication towards a growth mindset and one's way of making decisions under pressure
