Where Does Interpolation Fit In?

It costs a lot of money to sample a song directly. Some say record labels nudge artists to interpolate, or rerecord a song. They suggest it over direct sampling. It costs less money. It is also faster to produce. It takes a long time to get approval to sample an original song.

Amber Davis works at Warner Chappell Music. It is a music publishing company. She says waiting for rights to be approved can slow the process down. Artists are pushed to post songs quickly.

Davis hopes for more original work. She would prefer less sampling. But she says people still make a lot of money sampling other artists. The popular practice will not be going away soon.
